Daniel Rey along with his wife, Kristi; daughter, Ali; toddler son, Hunter, and their dog, move to Carlsbad, California. A few days later their residence is broken into, however, nothing appears to be missing. In order to prevent re-occurrences, they install a number of security cameras that will record everything on a DVR. After they hire a Spanish-speaking nanny to look after Hunter, she informs them that there is something wrong in their house and performs prayers, much to the chagrin of Daniel, who lets her go. He will subsequently regret this decision as more inexplicable and strange incidents occur, with Ali concluding, after a research, that their house may be possessed by a demonic entity.

He\'s been preaching, giving exorcisms and involved with the church since he was a child. But as time goes on, his beliefs falter, and he is left simply going through the motions. He firmly believes that exorcisms aren\'t real, and he sets out to prove this, via a documentary. He gets a letter from a father in Louisianna, who believes that his daughter is being possessed. So, Cotton decides this is the one he will prove himself on, and heads out the door to Louisianna.
When he arrives at Marcus\' house, he goes through all the initial acts, listening to stories and bull-sh*ting himself to an honest man, who is scared for his daughter. All the tests go as planned, and Cotton\'s staged exorcism is set to commence. Through a set of cleverly arranged trip lines and magnets, Cotton performs a very entertaining exorcism, and gets the family to believe he has abolished the demon. He leaves the family satisfied, fully confident that he has proved why exorcisms are all in the mind. Cotton\'s exorcism was undoubtedly funny, from the fake demon noises to the over the top performance from Cotton himself. Just like what you\'d see from the book.
When Nell shows up at Cotton\'s hotel, unannounced and in the middle of the night, signals go off that something is wrong. She\'s unresponsive, and they take her to the hospital, where her dad comes to get her in the morning. On his way back to the Sweetzer farm, he notices a fight between Nell and her father, Marcus. There were some very interesting uses of graphic art (kinda Frank Miller-ish) and multi-scene shots. In my opinion, the most interesting character is Tobias; the actor does an excellent job portraying a cut-throat S.O.B.

I saw it at my local Odeon last night, the only cinema in town showing it, and I strongly suspect it won\'t be on next week. This is an example of a really good British film from a director with a strong pedigree not getting the kind of publicity and public interest that is frequently given to the most heinous rubbish that Hollywood can produce. Granted, many people don\'t share my director-centric view of forthcoming features; I\'m prepared to risk getting my fingers burned occasionally in avidly chasing any films made by a select bunch of my favourite directors, but my approach is usually rewarded with excellence, like Centurion. In structure it is a very simple story, beautifully shot and honestly told. The bloody battles are very realistic - you get a good feel for what it might actually have been like to fight hand-to-hand in ancient times, frantic and deadly. The characters are simply drawn, and develop through their actions rather than words (quite literally in the case of Olga Kurylenko\'s \")

There are more funny moments - laugh out loud moments than you\'d expect. Without giving away any jokes for enjoyment - there were a lot of things to make fun of and the contemporary references were spot on. For this kind of movie they did as good a job as possible given the subject matter.
Compared to other spoof movies its less corny and slapstick. Of course there are some exaggerated parts and overkill on certain jokes but overall it was well done. It was nice that they used famous dialog from the movies to spoof like \")
